This Easter Bank Holiday, it was glorious to put a pause on all things teeth straightening, whitening and restoring and substitute it for some much-needed family time in the glorious sunshine.

Imran and I set up our dental practice on Fulham Road 5 years ago. Since then, it has been a relentless. We often forget to set some time aside for ourselves, offering it as sacrifice to allow the dental clinic and award-winning team to thrive.

We are still working hard on our work-life balance, but as it stands, I can admit work is definitely the plump, elevated kid in the seesaw of my existence.

Progress though. Much to the shock of our patients, who have become accustomed to us being ever available in virtual or actual form, we have booked a family break at the end of the month.

Our last break was almost a year ago. So, it has been some time since I last had to fit the contents of our flat into a suitcase. Last year, amidst the rush of preparing to leave the clinic behind, I actually forgot to pack my toddler’s toothpaste and toothbrush. With both parents being dentists, I would say this amounts to an epic fail.

In an attempt to avoid  similar epic tooth related fails this year, I have packed super early and made a list! I have also You Tubed best ways to pack a suitcase and plan on putting our dental hygiene products in my carry on so that I can make sure they are with me at all times.

It’s just too easy to forget things in this day and age where we are slaves to our incessant notifications. Dolly Parton sang about her woes of a 9-5 job. That actually sounds dreamy compared to our plugged in 24/7 lifestyles!

Our patients need late night appointments. We have already increased weekend availability. There are plans for us to open earlier and close later. It’s just the way it is these days. But it’s no wonder that leaves us in a position where we forget to pack our toothbrushes. It’s amazing that we can even pause to get to the airport!

So, if you’re off on your next break or busy planning it, just don’t forget your toothbrush, and I will try to remember mine!
